It was interesting! Unfortunately, grown-up history majors don’t get to sleuth about the world for artifacts or lecture about the British Empire. They find other things they like to do, and that’s okay. Still, I wanted a place to talk about cool history things, like museum visits, antiques, the crazy clothes people wore, and maybe Marie Antoinette.

Old Stuff is Neat: A History Lesson

BACK IN THE DAY.
…The one of Mary Pickford was taken when she was 33: kind of unsettling, honestly. She looks like a teenage doll. Anyway, there’s something about the black-and-white-ness of the pictures that adds mystery and a touch of grit. <3 <3

"I Bequeath it to You. God Bless You!"

Never was a huge Jane Austen fan (though Mr. Darcy was pretty hot). Still, this is so neat: a box enclosing an 1863 note and Jane Austen’s ring. It seems Miss Austen wasn’t making cash like today’s successful novelists (JK Rowling, anyone?), cause the ring’s stone is made of imitation turquoise. I won’t hold it against her, though: if I found this in my attic, I’d be psyched.
